On a milestone weekend for the IEWTO, National Instructor Sifu Tausend awarded Sifu Aidan Canavan his 6th Master Grade.
The weekend started with some private lessons on Saturday morning before the higher student grades and Higher Grades came together to train.
With a focus on how Wing Tsun generates power, Sifu Tausend took some time to look at weight shifting in the stance before talking about the importance of the correct elbow movement.
Attention then switched to the various programmes with everyone taking the opportunity to get clarification and correction ahead of gradings on Sunday.
After training finished we went for the now traditional Saturday evening meal, which was a chance for everyone to socialise and catch up on all the news since the EWTO 50th.
Sunday brought all grades together for the full IEWTO seminar and gradings.
The session began with the checking of the forms where Sifu Tausend made small corrections and answered students' questions on movements and applications.
That done, Sifu Tausend returned to the topic of power generation from the stance, advancing the drils for those that had been in attendance on Saturday.
We then looked at footwork. Wing Tsun is a very close quarters system and the footwork plays a big part in unbalancing an opponent, making it easier to strike them while making it harder for them to strike.
Next we worked on destroying an opponent's stance from within clinch range before a short break for lunch, after which attention shifted to programmes and gradings.
With gradings done, Sifu Tausend took questions from everyone on various aspects of Wing Tsun, power generation, self defence and awareness before awarding certs to close the weekend.
A big thank you to Sifu Tausend for a very informative and enjoyable weekend. Well done to all those that graded and huge congratulations to Sifu Aidan on his 6th Master Grade.
